Welcome to my blog!! This is where I will do the majority of my posting so that it’s all in one place. So join me on this journey and I hope to make it as fun and informative as I can.
Well tonight is the night before I start my journey in Africa. Tomorrow I will fly to JFK to get ready for my flight to Johannesburg on Monday morning. Today, I had to say goodbye to all of my friends 😦 I will miss them all so much but its so wonderful having a huge support system behind me, cheering me on and pushing me to make the most out of this life. I’m definitely not ready to say goodbye to my family but that’s a problem for tomorrow.
The reasons I chose the name for this blog, awe-inspiring, are two very different justifications but both with their own meaning. First, what better way to sum up what I hope this adventure is for me other than awe-inspiring. I have no doubt it will be anything short of that. Secondly, as I was perusing the internet for a blog name, I stumbled upon a website with “a list of beautiful words in Afrikaans”. At first, I had thought I wanted my blog to have a name in Afrikaans so I thought this would be perfect. As I browsed the website, I noticed a word that looked familiar, “ontsagwekkend”. It immediately reminded me of the name of the South African Veterinary School in Johannesburg, Onderstepoort. Well if you couldn’t guess it, ontsagwekkend translates to awe-inspiring. The similarity, although rather small, was enough for me to make the connection between the two words. It brought me back to the first time I went to South Africa and when I realized that I had found my true passion. So in some way, there is a connection between awe-inspiring and the pursuit of my veterinary career, both are the motivation behind this trip. I can’t wait for what is in store for me and I can’t wait to share it!
