HELLO FROM ZIMBABWE!!!!! I made it! 3 flights totaling 20 hours, 4 different airports, through 3 countries but I did it. It feels great to be back in Africa and to be exploring a new country. Zimbabwe is beautiful!! It’s so nice being here in the summer when everything is green and lush. It looks so much different than the other times I have been here when it’s winter.
I got to Johannesburg this morning and unfortunately was unable to meet up with my program leader and the other volunteers because I had to remain in transit for when I return to South Africa in March. I did get to meet up with the other volunteers going to Chipangali before our flight to Zimbabwe. There are three of us that started today: Lindsay is from New Orleans and staying for 3 weeks and Jemima is from Australia and staying for 2 weeks! They are both so so nice and I know we will get along great!
When we got to Chipangali, we were given a little tour which started with where we will be sleeping. We have a four person cabin (see below) with individual beds and a communal bathroom. The beds are actually so nice and comfy😍 Then we got a mini tour of the sanctuary. It is incredible what this place can do with the help of volunteers. They have rescued everything from tiny hedgehogs to lions to bateleur eagles. I can’t wait to get started with actual work tomorrow!

Nows the best part…and the part I know everyone has been waiting for…
TODAY WE CARED FOR A BABY BABOON!!!! His name is Andre and he is very socialized to people. So much so that everyday we will be taking him out on a harness to walk around and play. It really is the cutest thing. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to these next 6 weeks now more than ever.
